What is Scribbles & Stories?
Scribbles & Stories is a place for your student to confidently explore creative writing and storytelling. Currently, your creative collaborator, Becky Gardner, is providing writers a 6-week small group workshop (at a local park on Mondays and/or Wednesdays) or one-on-one Zoom meet-ups (flexible schedule as we navigate COVID-19).
Becky brings with her 10 years of experience working with children in a creative setting, and has a degree in English Literature & Creative Writing.
The GOAL of S&S is to explore different prompts and writing strategies to tell effective stories, develop confidence, and further enjoy writing and creative learning.
S&S group workshops are appropriate for students in Grades 3-8, and will be divided into grades 3-5 and 6-8.
Individual Zoom Meet-ups
The Zoom sessions are a 6 week opportunity to work through creative writing exercises and activities in your own home, on your own schedule. These sessions can be personalized to each individual student’s needs and interests. We will work on the sandwich method of story-telling, focusing on employing a beginning, middle, and end in our writing exercises. We will also use our time to build on concepts in journaling, magazines/newspapers, and free-writing to get creative and find stories. Scheduling is flexible.
Covid-19 Safe Group Meetings
The Group Creative Writing Class is a wonderful, 6 week opportunity for your child to get outdoors, social distance, and work through engaging writing exercises. No pressure to share, EVER, but the goal is to build a small writer’s workshop, building on creative ideas and methods, to result in a positive outlet for self-expression. Social Distancing measures will be employed to keep participants safe and engaged. We will meet at a local park on Mondays or Wednesdays. No more than 6 students/workshop.

I believe in equipping your child with the skills to be able to learn through their personal writing for the rest of their lives! By instilling in them methods of creative thinking, I believe they will be able to be independent thinkers and be high performers in their classroom environments.

Who is your instructor?
Hi there! Thanks for stopping by!
I’m Becky, a mom of 3, a full-time family photographer, and a storyteller! I am excited to help your student develop creative writing strategies and ideas to better engage in the world around us and use their unique voice.
I have a degree from Missouri State University in English Literature & Creative Writing. For the past decade, I’ve worked with hundreds of children, connecting with them during photo sessions to bring out their confidence and personalities.
I’d love to connect with your student and help them develop their own creative voice, using engaging writing prompts and exercises to help us think outside the box and foster a love of writing. In workshops, we will touch on personal narrative and memoir, poetry, experimental writing, and historical fiction.

Develop ideas and solutions during writing prompts and exercises to create and complete the story in your own voice.
Write.
Put that pen or pencil to paper and be proud of your written masterpieces, no many how many scribbles it takes.
Have Fun.
In this virtual age, this workshop is designed to explore fun approaches to learning and loving writing. We will laugh.
